The jewels of “IL GIOIELLO DEL TOMBOLO” are handmade by Federica Silvani and Francesco Rotolo.
Federica creates the drawing and she pins it on the bolster, then she wraps a particular metal thread in the bobbins and she starts creating the weft.
After finishing her jewel, Federica gives it to Francesco Rotolo, the goldsmith and he creates the structure called “sistema di ancoraggio forato metallico per lavori tessili” (system of metal perforated anchorage for textile works). This system develops along the perimeter of the pillow lace work. After finishing his work, Francesco gives it to Federica and she puts her creation on the goldsmith’s work by using a needle and a metal thread.
The principle that inspired this enterprise was: the goldsmith supporting the lace maker.
The result of this synergy is the creation of “IL GIOIELLO DEL TOMBOLO”. These jewels didn’t exist in the past and now they are protected by a PATENT.
This patent protects particularly the “sistema di ancoraggio forato metallico per lavori tessili” (system of metal perforated anchorage for textile works). This system has a triple function: make these handmade items wearable, protect them from usury and valorize their aesthetic value.
The system can be made of gold (yellow, white, red) or made of silver.
